| 1502 saw the arrival of the first Europeans in Argentina with the voyage of Amerigo Vespucci. Some time later in 1516 Spanish navigator Juan Diaz Del Solis visited the area and in 1536 the Spanish established a small settlement on what is known today as Buenos Aires the capital city of Argentina. During those early days Argentina was
mainly a country formed of Spanish immigrants and their descendants also known as “criollos”.
Argentina’s independence was officially recognized in 1825 when the British signed a treaty of friendship, commerce and navigation. Probably the most famous political figure of past times in Argentina was Juan Domingo Peron. His wife and ally Eva (Evita) has inspired filmmakers around the world to document her interesting life.
