Missiones is a province in Argentina that sits on the borders of Brazil and Paraguay. It is famous for the spectacular Iguazu Falls and Jesuit missions. In 17th century, members of the Society of Jesus came to the area. A string of Jesuit Reduccions was built by these missionaries. They managed to create 30 villages in a matter of a few years, wherein the Guarani (the natives), who had already started to practice agriculture, fully adopted a sedentary lifestyle. Misiones is the second smallest of the 23 provinces in Argentina. Sources of income are mainly the jungle and tourism industry as well as the cultivation of yerba mate tea and in minor amounts tobacco, sugar cane, rice and coffee. Cattle production is rare.
Missiones is lush and full of bird life and the sounds of the rainforest nearby. With the popularity of the tourism industry it would make for a great opportunity to invest into an affordable house or apartment. Life can be as hectic or relaxed as one chooses with all that is available in the area of Misiones. The cost of living for westerners is affordable due to the devaluation of the local currency in recent years, giving the investor more value for money.
